    • Dance First, Think Later Contemporary Art Programme

      Dance First, Think Later was a contemporary art programme which took place from 2015 - 2017 exploring notions of performativity and the human condition; tragicomedy and absurdity. It also included support for professional artists in Preston and the wider North West, practical workshops for adults and children, and a youth engagement programme, Sparks. Find out about the principal exhibitions, performances and events which took place as part of the programme below.  The programme was supported by:

    Discover something new at the Harris! We have activities for adults, young people (12-16 and 16-19) and families with children. The majority of our events and workshops are FREE and there’s a packed programme of regular events as well as special talks, tours and workshops.

    The Harris Museum and Art Gallery is an important regional museum which holds exciting collections including fine art, decorative art, costume and textiles, history and photography. Many of the collections are of regional, national and international significance.

    You can enjoy a fabulous range of sandwiches, paninis, soup, cakes and pastries along with freshly ground coffee, homemade milkshakes and speciality hot chocolate. You'll find vegetarian and gluten-free options as well as great choices for kids.

    Have your lunch in the most spectacular café in the city enjoying Lancashire produce while you take in the surroundings.  It's a great place to meet up with friends, grab a bite to eat, or relax and enjoy a drink.

    Friends 2017 RGBThe Friends of the Harris are our charity. 


    STOP PRESS:
    Nominate us now for £1000 towards the #HarrisYourPlace project. You'll need our name, Friends of the Harris, and our charity reg. number, 503726.

    #HarrisYourPlace will revitalise the Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library
    for the 21st century.

    The Grade I listed building, opened in 1893, will be completely refurbished
    to make it a community and cultural hub for Preston. 

    We'll welcome another 100,000 people each year with improved services for everyone,
    including those most in need.

    The Ecclesiastical 12 Days of Giving Awards will give £1000 to each of 120 charities between 5th and 20th December and nominations are open now.  Charities will be picked at random from entries made by the public - the more entries we have, the more chance we have of winning one of the prize grants which will help #HarrisYourPlace happen.  Please ask your friends and family to nominate us too!
