Dressing Up for the Guild

Dress worn at Guild balls

Exhibition
18 August 2012 – 23 February 2013

Find out how the people of Preston have dressed up to celebrate Preston Guild over the last 200 years in this
unique exhibition based on highlights from the Harris’ historic costume collection.

Dressing Up is an experience for all the senses. Listen to sounds that set the scene of a busy celebration, such as
music and diary extracts, discover Guild memories from proud Prestonians, and try on costumes in our pop-up
fancy dress shop.

Find out the stories of the historic costumes that have survived and the people who wore them. Also on display are quirky objects such as the Guild Doll from the mid-1700s and fancy dress worn by children to the juvenile Guild balls of the past.
