Photographer's Masterclass: 'Preston Bus Station'

Jamie Hawkesworth Preston

Special Events
Wednesday 17 January 2018
1pm - 2.30pm

You are invited to join artist Jamie Hawkesworth as he talks and walks you through his unique approach to street photography. TICKETS NOW SOLD OUT.

You will meet in the Harris where Jamie will walk you over to Preston Bus Station to discuss his approach to photographing this unique space, the architecture, the light and the people.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in producing their own photographic work to spend time with an expert. There will be opportunities to talk to Jamie first-hand and ask on a practical level about his career, his approach to photography, how he composes his imagery and how he prints his work.

Jamie Hawkesworth started out studying forensic science at UCLan in Preston, but switched to photography after discovering a love of this medium. His work can now be seen in publications such as Vogue and in campaigns for Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu.

In 2013 Hawkesworth heard that Preston Bus Station was at risk of demolition and he returned to the city for a month to photograph this space and the people in it. ‘The station was then one big loop, and I just walked around it all day, every day, just waiting for people to pop out at me.’

Tickets are free but must be pre-booked on Harris Eventbrite

The resulting series of photographs has just been published by Dashwood Books. Preston Bus Station and will be on sale in the museum shop from 17 January 2018.

Photography from Jamie Hawkesworth's Preston Bus Station series is currently on display in the Preston Street Style exhibition.
