Sugar workers in 1899 with carts full of sugar cane

Hundreds of photographs unravel the story behind a family trip to eleven Caribbean Islands in 1899.

Gain a vivid glimpse into Caribbean life as the 19th century drew to a close, and learn more about the impact of the end of enslavement within the sugar industry.  Uncover Preston’s ongoing connection with the Caribbean, through photography taken in 2007, which revisits the original locations from the 1899 album.
