Artist and potter Grayson Perry won the Turner Prize in 2003. Unpopular Culture is his personal selection of modern British art from the Arts Council Collection. The figurative paintings, bronze sculptures and documentary photography reflect a more restrained and quieter period of British art history between around 1940 and 1980. Artists include: Frank Auerbach, L.S. Lowry, Henry Moore, Paul Nash, Martin Parr, and John Piper as well as two new commissions by Perry. Families can join in with hands-on activities and workshops during the summer in a dedicated area within the exhibition space.
A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition as well as a specially designed headscarf designed by Perry.
