Harris Open Exhibition 2019

Harris opening night

Until 26 January 2020

Collections Days:   Friday 31 January 12noon-4pm,
Saurday 1 February 10am-4pm

The Harris Open is one of our most popular exhibitions - last year we showcased 516 works belonging to 327 local artists with 63 of the artists aged under 18. This year we are looking to encourage even more young artists to enter their work.

The Harris Open is an energetic and quirky exhibition full of positivity and colour and is guaranteed to give a boost to get rid of those winter blues!

The Harris Open has been running now for many years – the first one was in 1926 and back then it was called the Lancashire Art Exhibition. The Harris Open gives Preston residents from a 5 mile radius of the Harris, a chance to unite and show Harris visitors what they are made of. The exhibition attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Artists come from all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience - from just for fun to professional practicing artists - are invited to submit one or two artworks they have created in the last 2 years and not previously shown at the Harris. It is a brilliant way to be a part of something big and feel connected to like-minded people.

Some work is available for sale – the Harris takes a 30% commission.

This year's Harris Open represents the rich cultural diversity of Preston with a variety of art forms including digital, sound, performance, installation, along with the more traditional art forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textiles, and ceramics.

The exhibition has work from artists of all ages and abilities living or studying in the Preston City Council area or within a 5 mile radius of the Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library.

Dont forget to collect your work on either Friday 31 January 12noon-4pm or Saurday 1 February 10am-4pm.
