70 Years of Pauline at the Harris

Sir James Gunn, Pauline in the Yellow Dress 1944

Exhibition - Fine Art Galleries
8 November - 28 February 2015

A rare chance to see the yellow dress worn by Pauline in the famous portrait, plus other paintings of Pauline by her husband, Sir James Gunn that are owned by a private collector.

Pauline in the Yellow Dress by Sir James Gunn caused a sensation when it arrived at the Harris 70 years ago this year. It was given the accolade of ‘The Mona Lisa of 1944’ at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Today, ‘Pauline’ is still one of the most popular paintings in the collection. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see a selection of the many portraits Gunn painted of his wife, including works that have not been on public display before alongside the yellow dress and archive material.70 years of Pauline logo

The exhibition revisits the excitement of 1944 and commemorates the life of Sir James Gunn who died 50 years ago in December.
