For Schools and Groups
The Harris Museum & Art Gallery is an exciting resource to enrich and add value to your teaching. Based in a neo-classical Grade 1 listed building, we have an extensive collection of original paintings and sculptures, a beautiful decorative arts collection, and fascinating artefacts relating to Preston’s history. Our school workshops link to National Curriculum QCA units of work and use the architecture, art works and artefacts to inspire and enthuse pupils' learning.
We have a wide range of fresh and exciting sessions relating to various key stages and provide a checklist of everything you need to consider when organising your visit to the Harris.
The Harris Museum & Art Gallery welcomes visits from schools and we will do our best to make your visit run smoothly. If you are planning a visit we would advise you to contact us in advance to discuss your needs. Please telephone 01772 905405.
Follow the Yarn is an educational history website produced by the Harris. Its colourful and fun packed pages explore the history of Preston and the rise and fall of the cotton industry.
Visitors to the website can learn about the history of Preston through a series of timelines including one on the famous Horrockses company. They can also weave their own cloth design on a virtual loom or become a Victorian journalist reporting on the important events of the day!
