Visit to Lancashire Conservation Studios and re-opened Museum of Lancashire
Wednesday 7th March
10.15 for 10.30am – 12.30pm
Free, but booking essential on 01772 905414. 

See conservators working on items for our new history gallery, Discover Preston as well as the newly refurbished Museum of Lancashire.

How to Collect Talk*

With A Private Affair as inspiration, Beatrice Hodgkin, author of Affordable Contemporary Art: A Guide to Buying and Collecting and Culture Editor at Easy Living magazine, talks about how to start and develop an art collection.  She will also be available to sign copies of her book which is available at 10% discount to Friends. 

The event is introduced by Mark Doyle, Head of Collector Development in the North West for the Contemporary Art Society.

Global Rainbow Exclusive Viewing and Discussion - In conversation with Yvette Mattern*
Saturday 10th March

Global Rainbow is a spectacular large scale outdoor laser projection created by Puerto Rican-American artist Yvette Mattern which will be on show in Preston from 8th – 11th March. 
This event is an opportunity to hear the artist in conversation with Curator of Art in Public Places, Elaine Speight, prior to an opportunity to see the artwork from the Harris balcony

Preston and Its Guild 1902 to 1992 Film Premiere*

Vintage Fair at Lancashire Record Office*
Saturday 17th March
11am – 4pm

Join staff from the Harris, Lancashire Museums and Lancashire Archives at the very first Record Office Vintage Fair. 
The Harris presence will include ephemera from Horrockses Fashions and a stall selling some of our best-selling merchandise.

Friends of the Harris 40th Anniversary Special Celebration Evening & AGM
Wednesday 11th April
7pm for 7.30pm

2012 is the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Friends of the Harris! 
This special event includes:

  • Welcome and a glass of wine
  • Project History Officer, Laura Briggs, on what you can expect in the new history gallery
  • Opportunity to see and handle some of the Harris’ collection of Guild memorabilia
  • Raffle, unique Friends’ celebration cake and a glass of wine to finish!



Visit to Museum of Liverpool
24th April

The Museum of Liverpool, opened in July 2011 to replace the successful Museum of Liverpool Life, is the largest new national museum to be built in the UK for over a hundred years. It reflects the city’s global significance through its unique geography, history and culture.

There are three floors to explore with galleries including Global City, The Great Port, History Detectives and Wondrous Place, where shows of The Beatles and the football club can be seen. Timed tickets for the shows are available free of charge from the information desk on arrival.
