May & June 2007
A mixture of year nine and ten students from the school took part in the innovative Podcast project through the extended schools scheme. The students worked with the Harris Museum & Art Gallery and Bluestreak Arts to produce three Podcasts for members of the public to use whilst visiting the museum. The students chose their own theme for the Podcasts after researching the varying collections and temporary exhibitions at the museum. They then worked alongside Bluestreak Arts and museum staff to create scripts and produce three Podcasts that tell the stories behind the artworks -with the help of some interesting characters along the way!
On the 14th June they were met by Minister for Culture, David Lammy as part of his visit to the Harris Museum & Art Gallery. The Minister said ‘I was impressed by Preston and pleased to see how the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, the National Football Museum and the Lancashire Museum Service are individually and collectively working to engage young people, increase visits by schools and develop a stronger offer around family learning.’
The Minister’s quote bears testimony to the achievement of museums across Preston, as initiated by the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, on behalf of Renaissance North West. The Harris Museum & Art Gallery continue to work with schools and with the Preston Museum Consortium to provide new opportunities to engage and inspire.
